Creating an Educated Community to Serve Christ and One Another

Working Together Volunteer Program

At Blessed Sacrament school, parents and school personnel form an important partnership in the education of our students.   Much of our school’s “Blue Ribbon” success can be attributed to the participation of ALL school families in our volunteer program.  Your enthusiasm, dedication and willingness to share your time and talents, have created the school’s warm “family” atmosphere and have brought our mission of “creating an educated community to serve Christ and one another” to life.

Volunteerism here at Blessed Sacrament School has many benefits both tangible and intangible.  Not only does it reduce the costs of educating our children, it also increases academic achievement, builds confidence and enhances student self esteem.  Most of all, it provides a concrete example of what it takes to build a community.  Supporting these efforts is what our Working Together program is all about.

Historically, we have asked that each family contribute 20 hours volunteering for the school (10 hours for single parents.)  We will continue to ask for a commitment of 15 hours but it is voluntary.   The introduction of the Annual Fund reduces the number of fundraising hours necessary to meet the PTO’s commitment to the school.  Because of this, we will no longer require nor will we track volunteer hours for BSS families.  We know that most parents participate enthusiastically as volunteers and frequently give far more hours than what is requested of them.

Blessed Sacrament school offers a variety of volunteer opportunities that allow you as parents to become involved both at school during the day and after hours from the comforts of home.  Opportunities range from assisting in the cafeteria or acting as a room parent, to coaching CYO sports or serving on the PTO board.  You can make phone calls to secure auction donations or provide hospitality for an open house.  The school’s annual auction – which will continue to be our largest fund raising event – has many chances to volunteer.

We know that all of you, as parents, want the best for your children and have chosen Blessed Sacrament School for that reason.  As a volunteer, you are a valued member of the school community, and we thank you for your support.

To take a look at volunteer opportunities for the 2011-2012.  We would appreciate it if you could “x” or circle area(s) you would be interested in so that we may follow up with you appropriately and get you in touch with the chair(s). Requests for volunteers also frequently appear in our weekly newsletter.  We have a free newsletter delivery service to your email address.  If you are a member of the Blessed Sacrament School family and would like to receive the newsletter, send an email at this address: schoolinfo@blessedsacramentcc.org.  If you have any questions, or ideas for ways to get involved in the school, please contact our volunteer coordinators, Nancy Conway (conwayn@mindspring.com) or Cathy Johnson (cathyjohnson304@yahoo.com).
